Beyoncé hits back at accusations of misuse of hit on ‘Renaissance’ track after being called ‘arrogant’

This Friday (7), Beyoncé responded to claims by Right Said Fred that she had sampled one of the band’s songs without authorization. The group, known for the hit “I’m Too Sexy”, accuses the diva of having used part of the song in “Alien Superstar”, from her new album, “Renaissance”.

to the E! News, the artist characterized the allegations as “erroneous, incredibly derogatory and false”. She also assured that she received the proper permissions for the use of the track by the British band’s publisher. “Permission was not only granted for the use, but they also spoke publicly about their gratitude for being on the album,” the star noted in the statement.

She then gave more details: “For their music, there was no use of sound recording, only the composition was used”. “Permission was requested from the publisher on May 11, 2022 and he approved use on June 15, 2022. The group was paid for the use of the song in August 2022,” she added.

Furthermore, Blue Ivy’s mother revealed that both Fred and Richard Fairbrass, who composes Right Said Fred, were credited as co-writers of the “Renaissance” song. “Right Said Fred writers’ copyright percentage for the use of ‘I’m Too Sexy’ is a substantial part of the composition. Collectively, the writers of Right Said Fred own more than any other individual song writer. This accusation is false.”

Earlier in the week, Fred and Richard spoke to The Sun about the alleged misuse of their hit. “Usually the artist talks to us, but Beyoncé doesn’t, because she’s such an arrogant person that she probably thought, ‘come after me’. So, we didn’t find out about the song until after it was released,” they said.

“There’s nothing we can do about it right now. It’s shit. You’re going to argue with someone who has a lot more presence, power, and money than you, and it won’t end well. So the best thing is to let this one go.”
