Body of Missing University of Colorado-Boulder Student Found in Hard-to-Reach Terrain
Authorities in Colorado have made a grim discovery in the search for missing University of Colorado-Boulder student Megan Trussell. They believe they have found her body in a location that was difficult to access.
Trussell, 18, was last seen in her residence hall on Sunday, Feb. 9, wearing dark-colored yoga pants, a blue/gray jacket, and white platform sneakers. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has informed the University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD) that a deceased person matching Trussell’s description was found near mile marker 40 in Boulder Canyon.
CUPD is currently working to confirm additional details and will provide updates as soon as possible. The Boulder County coroner will conduct an autopsy to verify the person’s identity and determine the cause of death.
Missing Persons Report and the Investigation
CUPD received a missing persons report for Trussell on Wednesday, Feb. 12. The Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers then notified the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office about a deceased female they had discovered on Feb. 14 at around 10:40 a.m.
State and local agencies have been collaborating to investigate Trussell’s disappearance and now, unfortunately, her possible death. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and how she ended up in Boulder Canyon Drive remain unclear.
Challenging Recovery Operation
Recovering Trussell’s body was no easy task. The sheriff’s office stated that she was found in hard-to-reach terrain, necessitating a technical evacuation that involved rappelling. The hazardous road conditions caused by the weather also led to the temporary closure of Boulder Canyon Drive to ensure the safety of the authorities conducting the investigation.
As the investigation continues, Trussell’s friends, family, and the community are left searching for answers and mourning the loss of a young life. The authorities are determined to uncover the truth about what happened to Megan Trussell and bring justice to her and her loved ones.
