Dylan O’Brien Reveals Why He Wore a Fake Mustache for Dan Aykroyd Role in Saturday Night

In a recent candid discussion, actor Dylan O’Brien opened up about his unique experience while portraying the iconic Dan Aykroyd in the film “Saturday Night.” This revelation came during a promotional event at the Sundance Film Festival for his latest project, “Twinless,” where he shared intriguing behind-the-scenes insights.

Fake Mustaches and Filming Challenges

During his conversation with Entertainment Weekly, O’Brien highlighted an interesting detail regarding his character’s appearance. He revealed that, for his role as Dan Aykroyd, he had to wear a fake mustache. The decision was made because the production team felt that his natural hair follicles did not match the legendary comedian’s look. O’Brien noted, “They made me wear a fake one for Aykroyd because they said my hair follicles didn’t match Dan Aykroyd’s.”

Contrast with Twinless

In contrast, while filming “Twinless,” O’Brien was able to use his real mustache. He expressed a preference for this natural option, stating, “I’m a little biased, but yeah.” However, he also humorously shared the struggles that came with wearing a fake mustache, especially in the humid climate of Georgia during late summer. The actor described the discomfort, saying, “It was always coming off and getting in my mouth and stuff.”

Behind the Scenes Fun

Co-star James Sweeney chimed in during the interview, playfully asking if O’Brien had to shave to keep the fake mustache intact. The “Maze Runner” star confirmed the hassle, saying, “Yeah, always.” Despite the challenges, O’Brien maintained a positive attitude, referring to the experience as “an easy, great job.”
