Crime Surge in Austin
This tragic incident adds to the growing concerns over crime in Austin. In recent years, the city has experienced an increase in criminal activities. In 2023, during a staffing shortage, the APD even urged residents to report robberies near ATMs by calling 311.
In August 2024, residents of the Montopolis neighborhood expressed their fears about rising crime levels, as reported by KVUE-TV. One local resident shared their anxiety, stating, “It’s making the hair on my arms stand up. To hear eight, nine, ten shots. Just bam, bam, bam. Where are those bullets going? I don’t want to be shot sleeping in my bed.”
The APD has been contacted for further information regarding the ongoing investigation.
