Lupin's Omar Sy Set to Play Yasuke in Netflix Live Action

The history of Yasukethe first black samurai in history, will get a new live-action version by Netflix, with Omar Sy, by Lupine, in negotiations to play the protagonist. The information was released by THR.

The series, described as a “five-part event”, will be written by Nick Jones Jr.who was behind the anime released by the same platform in 2021. He will serve as executive producer alongside Sy and production company 21 lapshome behind Project Adam and Stranger Things.

According to THR, the new version of Yasuke will be a dramatization of the samurai’s true story, focusing on his friendship with Oda Nobunaga, the feudal lord and samurai warrior he served.

“With this incredible team, we are creating a remarkable series that demonstrates what it means to be an African samurai in Japanese history,” commented Sy.

There are still no details or release date for the live-action Yasuke.
