Premiere of musical adaptation with Michelle Yeoh is brought forward

The premiere of the adaptation of the musical Wicked, the prologue to The Wizard of Oz, was advanced in the United States. Previously scheduled for December 25, 2024, now, the feature premieres in November 27, 2024. The change was announced by the director Jon M Chu on twitter; look:

“We’re immersed in the making of Wicked and every day we get more and more excited to share with you the shenanigans we’ve been up to. So… We’ve decided to deliver the movie to you all a little earlier than planned. A little treat from the day of action thanks,” he wrote.

A prologue to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the story of everything up to Dorothy’s arrival in Oz. In its original Broadway run, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth lived the friends-turned-enemies Elphaba, who would become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch.

The cast has Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere at Once), Ariana Grande (Scream Queens) Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and others.

Directed by Jon M Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), the first Wicked movie will hit theaters in November 27, 2024while the second chapter will be released exactly one year later, in December 25, 2025.
