THE queen of country pop is back! Shania Twain released this Friday (23) his first new song in six years. Waking Up Dreaming is a single that reached digital platforms and still won a music video with a very 1980s aesthetic.

“Every time I announce something like this, I feel so much adrenaline and nervousness — that feeling never gets old,” the singer wrote, announcing the new song on Instagram. “I’ve spent the last two years working on new music, on my documentary, on the Las Vegas residency, and it’s been such a creative time for me, I can’t wait for the next chapter. Waking Up Dreaming is just the beginning.⁠”

Although the single’s cover shows Shania Twain posing in a cowboy hat, Waking Up Dreaming embraces her pop side much more deeply. In the music video, the singer still brings a look inspired by glam-rock.

Shania Twain embraces pop side in new single

The new song is the singer’s first since it went viral. new generation on TikTok. Track Man! (I Feel Like a Woman), from 1997, has already been used in more than 200,000 videos on the platform. A remix of electronic music beats also served as the soundtrack for another 10,000 posts. Shania Twain has been capitalizing on her success on her own social media account, where she has 2.2 million followers.

Shania’s last album was now (2017), which contained the single Life’s About to Get Good. Since then, she has only made a few partnerships on projects by other artists.

Waking Up Dreaming arrives less than two months after Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl (2022), documentary about the singer’s story that premiered on Netflix. The Canadian took advantage of the production to release a compilation of the greatest hits of her career, which is available on audio platforms.
