Tarzan is acquired by Sony and will get a new movie

Tarzan, a character famous for having grown up in the jungle, may return to theaters. According to THR, the Sony Pictures acquired the screen rights to the character and is trying to do a “total reinvention” of the character. For now, it has not been announced who will direct or cast the film.

Tarzan was created in 1912 by the English Edgar Rice Buroughs and has already received several adaptations ranging from cinema, TV to games. The most prominent are from the 60’s film franchise, starring Mike Henry and the 1999 Disney animation that won an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

The last adaptation for the big screen was in 2016 released by Warner Bros. starring Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbiebut it was not a box office success.
