Trump wins Arizona to sweep swing states and secure 312 total electoral votes

Trump Secures Victory in Arizona, Gaining 11 Electoral Votes

President-elect Trump has emerged victorious in Arizona, reclaiming the swing state that he lost in the 2020 election. This win adds 11 more electoral votes to his total count, bringing it to 312. In contrast, Vice President Harris only managed to secure 226 electoral votes.

Trump’s triumph in Arizona marks the conclusion of the battle for swing states in the 2024 presidential election. Along with Arizona, he also secured electoral votes in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.

Arizona has been a significant battleground state, particularly due to its proximity to Mexico and the immigration issue. For many residents, swift border enforcement is a top priority. Mary from Phoenix emphasized the need for stricter incarceration at the border, stating, “And if there’s a suspicion that they’re going to commit a crime, lock them up.”

On the other hand, there were those in Arizona who resonated with Harris’ message that Trump posed a threat to democracy. Bob, a resident of Tempe, expressed his support for Harris, highlighting the impact of tax cuts and the Supreme Court’s decisions on government agencies. He believed that Harris would work towards rectifying these issues and preventing the appointment of more Federalist judges.

In the 2020 election, President Biden won Arizona by a slim margin of less than one-half of 1%. Additionally, Maricopa County, a key area in the state, saw a close race with Biden defeating Trump by a 2% margin. Prior to Biden’s victory, Republicans had consistently carried Arizona since 1996.

It is worth noting that Arizona has a higher proportion of Hispanic voters compared to the rest of the country. Although they favored Biden by a significant margin in the previous election, there were signs of a shift towards Trump leading up to the 2024 election.

Aside from the presidential race, Arizona is also choosing a new senator as independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema opted not to run for re-election. The Republican candidate, Kari Lake, is a former TV news host who previously ran for governor in 2022. On the Democratic side, Rep. Ruben Gallego, a former Marine representing Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, is vying for the seat.

With the conclusion of the 2024 election, President-elect Trump’s victory in Arizona solidifies his position as the next President of the United States. The race for swing states has come to an end, and Trump’s success in Arizona, along with other key states, secures his electoral lead.
